First a little of my background. I was Service Manager at a Honda dealer for about 5 years, that's when my mom bought her new '89 Accord LX. I'm also an ASE certified Master Technician. Here's the story. I work at a Chevrolet dealer, although not in the Service Department. Mom's car was starting hard & stalling when cold. None of the techs knew anything about Hondas, and I forgot what little I knew, so the Shop Foreman suggested I take it to his friend who is Service Manager at an Acura dealer. They diagnosed a leaking insulator under the carburetor, said it was very common. The price was around $300 for everything. Well it sat there for a month while they tried to find the part, it was no longer available from Honda due to the age of the car. I finally had to pick it up because a hurricane was coming. They were very nice, detailed mom's car & didn't charge me for anything. As I was leaving they asked me to let them know if I ever found the part. Mom's car sat a while longer as I pondered my next step, thank goodness mom's retired. One of the techs at work suggested Jap. Tech., said his sister in law has a similar problem. I called them & made an appointment. I took it in, told them of my previous experience with the dealer. Later that day they called to say it just needed a PCV valve, less than $100 parts & labor, including diagnosis, and they had the part! I authorized the repair, and asked them to re-check it in the morning. They called the next morning to say it was fine, come pick her up. Well it is fixed! They had an opportunity to sell me some expensive carburetor work, and throw in the $20 PCV valve, but they didn't. They're experienced enough with Hondas to know all it needed was a part that I should have replaced years ago in the course of normal maintenance. As you must have guessed by know I highly recommend Jap. Tech. Inc.
